The idea that Donald Trump deserves a second term is not dangerous.
After all, roughly 40% of Americans believe that — and maybe more. We’ll find out tomorrow.
No, the dangerous idea isn’t that the president should be re-elected. It is dismissing this idea that he should be re-elected as dangerous without first considering it.
But the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette just did. It held its nose and endorsed Trump this weekend.
“Donald Trump is not Churchill, to be sure,” it wrote. “but he gets things done.”
It’s hard to find anyone who will disagree with the first sentiment. The second one? That’s a little more difficult.
What did he get done? Run the country into the ground? Destroy America’s standing in the world? Ruin the economy?
Oh wait, the Post-Gazette offers the following disclaimer:
“He’s unpresidential.”
“He’s crude and unkind.”
“He’s just not a good man.”
Still, it would be dangerous to ignore those who support the Trump ticket as tomorrow’s U.S. presidential election draws near. Closing your mind to facts, no matter how objectionable you may find them … well, isn’t that what got us into this mess?
So listen. Not doing so might be the most dangerous idea of this election season.
And don’t forget to vote.
